Giveaway: Let’s Give Nasty Chemicals the Bird this Summer

I recently spent 8 days on a cruise ship where one could avoid the confined smoking areas, but could not bypass the clouds of foul-smelling aerosol sunscreen.

Meanwhile, my non-toxic odor-free sunscreens rubbed on clean and clear, and I seriously wanted to post a sign to myself that said “Ask Me About My Sunscreen.” It’s never been easier to do better – and with a seriously pale family (and even a hairless dog), I should know.

I’ve been a fan of Goddess Garden from the beginning, from using their fantastic organic spray sunscreen on my family to convincing my children’s pre-school to make the switch from Coppertone!

The chemicals in sunscreens are some of the worst offenders in terms of health risks for people and harm for the planet. From chemical sunscreens like oxybenzone and octinoxate to the inactive ingredients like phthalates and parabens, sunscreen is complicated stuff. These chemicals have been linked to everything from allergies to hormone disruption. And remember, hormones control more than just female reproduction and mood—they are the control systems for everything in your body. Insulin is a hormone. Your thyroid is controlled by hormones. They aren’t something we want to disrupt! Goddess Garden has been on a mission to eliminate toxic chemicals and help others do the same.

Sunscreen chemicals can trigger allergies and other skin reactions. Since natural minerals reflect the UV rays and aren’t absorbed into the skin, they are much less likely to cause irritation. This makes them great for those with sensitive skin or anyone who wants to avoid synthetic chemicals. Plus, most traditional sunscreens use toxic chemical sunscreens that absorb and scatter the sun’s rays into the skin. Along with those ultraviolet (UV) rays, the chemicals are absorbed and can get into the bloodstream. The skin is the body’s largest organ—let’s protect it!

Plus, mineral sunscreens are safe for the reefs and environment. Studies have shown common chemical sunscreens like octinoxate and oxybenzone are damaging the coral reefs. Hawaiian senators even introduced a ban on these chemical sunscreens in an effort to save the reefs. Because the minerals come from the earth, they can safely return there once your day in the sun is done.

There are safer, accessible, and affordable sunscreens on the market that offer all the benefits and none of the drawbacks. Goddess Garden has been leading the charge for years and that’s why it’s one of my favorite trusted brands.
