My Favorite Green Things of 2012

Heinz Organic Ketchup
If I was a better greenie I would make my own ketchup, or at least buy from a small wholly organic company. But when you grow up on something Heinz ketchup it’s hard to make a switch – nothing else tastes quite like it. But loaded with high fructose corn syrup and conventional tomatoes, I was trying to cut my rations. So I was psyched to discover that Heinz is now making a certified Organic Ketchup that tastes exactly like the original!

Kure Bazaar Non Toxic Nail Color
Between CrossFit, gardening, and changing diapers, manicures have never been my thing. However, I insist on having my toenails painted at all times and Kure Bazaar is the best long-lasting, vibrant, non toxic polish I have ever tried.

Free Kindle Books from the Library
If you are an avid reader there’s no question that using an e-reader is a greener option than buying up hundreds of paperbacks. But e-books can be costly. I was thrilled to find out I could download titles for free from my local library’s Web site! All you need is a library card and you can find thousands of free titles available from your local branch. Here is the link to the Philadelphia Free Library Digital Media Library. Unfortunately, my book is not available in libraries, but I hope you will consider it a resource worth keeping on your Kindle!

Takeya Iced Tea Maker
Yes, it’s plastic, but it’s BPA free and saves me hundreds of tea bag wrappers. The Takeya 64-Ounce Iced Tea Maker with Silicone Handle is my must-have for making iced teas and fruit-infused water.

La Bella Figura Manuka Honey Healing Mask
The Bio Active Purifying Mask for Problem Skin is a complexion-clearing formula designed to bring bacteria and dirt to the surface and balance oily skin types. A unique blend of Amazonian white clay, Rhassoul clay, white willow bark powder, and natural activated charcoal draws out toxins and impurities and exfoliates dead skin that can contribute to buildup and acne. I have been using this for my hormonal pregnancy skin and I absolutely love it – a little goes a long way as well so one bottle can last ages!

Philadelphia’s Green Cred On The Rise
I’ve always been a huge fan of Mayor Nutter and the groundbreaking work he has done to make Philly a more sustainable city. But recently the city has gotten even more attention for new projects including the forthcoming bike share program! I’ve been obsessed with bike shares since I used them in Montreal and can’t wait til they finally get here!

Nine Naturals Belly Balm
This super safe personal care line is specially designed for pregnancy and beyond. I especially love the Vanilla + Geranium Regenerative Belly Butter, crafted from rich, organic emollients like broccoli seed oil, shea butter and cupuaçu butter. Each ingredient is packed with restorative omega fatty acids and works deep within your skin’s connective tissue to dramatically improve elasticity, control stretch marks, and fight itchiness.

That tea maker looks pretty nifty. I still have tea bags to finish before I buy some sort of tea maker. I will keep that one in mind! Thanks, Paige!
